Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Lexmark XM7270 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You run high-volume A4 batch work — statements, claims, mortgage packages — at 10,000-30,000 pages a month.
  • You want the 7-Series consumables math: bigger toner yields, longer maintenance intervals, lower CPP at scale.
  • You'll spec 4,000+ sheets of input so paper isn't the bottleneck.
  • You want secure release, badge release, scan-to-EMR/ERP, and Embedded Solutions Framework apps.
  • You have IT to manage Lexmark's enterprise fleet tools.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • It's fine if you're replacing an MX910 or MX912 and want familiar workflow.
  • It's fine if 70 ppm A4 covers everything except the rare 11x17 you can outsource.
  • It's fine if your color volume is small enough to handle on separate desktops.
  • It's fine if you're already on a managed-print contract that handles service and toner.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • Skip this if your monthly volume is under 10,000 pages — the XM7263 or even XM5263 is enough.
  • Skip this if you need tabloid output — XC9655 or XC9665.
  • Skip this if you need color — XC9-Series or a Konica/Ricoh color MFP.
  • Skip this if you have no IT support — fleet-class management requires admin time.
  • Skip this if you need physical finishing (booklet making, large stapling) — get the floor-standing MX-Series with finishers.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

Top of Lexmark's 7-Series A4 B&W MFP lineup at 70 ppm. The XM7270 is built for 10,000-30,000 pages a month — high-volume back-office work, batch printing, statement runs, mortgage packages, claims processing. Same 200-sheet single-pass duplex ADF, same 7-inch touchscreen, same input options as the XM7263, just with the engine and fuser tuned for the higher speed. The 1 thing buyers regret: scaling up to the XM7270 because of duty cycle when speed is what they actually needed (or vice versa). The XM7270's bigger story is consumables and service intervals; the speed bump from the 7263 is small in real-world mixed use. If your volume is high enough for the XM7270 to make sense, you're probably also a candidate for a floor-standing MS9-Series or MX9-Series with finishing options. The other regret is forgetting that 70 ppm A4 still bottlenecks on tabloid layouts — if your workflow has any 11x17 documents at all, look at the XC9-Series.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

What customers actually say

The 5-star consensus: "it just works"

Small sample size, high signal. The 3 verified reviewers picked this model to replace older inkjets or aging Lexmark machines. Common threads in the feedback:

  • "Been using this machine in our small law office for about two years now. The scan-to-email feature saves us a lot of time, and the automatic duplex printing cuts our paper costs significantly. Only complaint is the toner cartridges aren't cheap, but the machine itself has been rock solid."
  • "Set this up in my home office and it handles the volume I need. The touchscreen interface is straightforward enough, though I wish the default settings for scanning quality were a bit higher. Network setup was painless once I figured out the IP address thing."
  • "Replaced an older HP with this and we're happy with the decision. Prints fast, copies are clean, and the finishing options are useful for our company materials. Support from Lexmark has been decent too when we had questions."

Yes, the Lexmark XM7270 ships with a starter toner cartridge that yields approximately 25,000 pages. Replacement options include the 24B6826 (high-yield, 35,000 pages) and 25B3086 (extra-high-yield, 45,000 pages). The imaging unit has a yield of up to 100,000 pages. The Lexmark XM7270 is a monochrome A4 MFP with a speed of 70 ppm and a monthly volume of 10,000–30,000 pages, ideal for high-volume back-office tasks. The Lexmark CS960 Series is a floor-standing A3 color laser printer with a speed of 55 ppm in both black and color, designed for departmental workgroups needing tabloid color output and handling up to 50,000 pages monthly. The CS960 Series supports larger paper sizes (A3, SRA3, 12x18) and includes wireless connectivity, while the XM7270 is optimized for monochrome efficiency. For small offices needing color or larger formats, the CS960 Series is the better choice.
The Lexmark XM7270 is designed for high-volume environments (10,000–30,000 pages/month) and may exceed the needs of most small businesses. Its 70 ppm speed and monochrome-only output are best suited for back-office batch printing. Small businesses with lower volume or color needs might find it overkill; consider a more compact model or explore our commercial options.
No, the Lexmark XM7270 is a monochrome-only printer. For color printing, consider alternatives like the Lexmark CS960 Series, Lexmark CS632dwe, or other color MFPs in our lineup.
